Memorial Day

Memorial Day is Monday, May 25, 2015. It is often considered the start of the "summer" season and for some, it's a 3 day weekend away from work. Memorial Day is a lot more though. It's a day to remember and honor those who died in military service.

It started as Decoration Day, a day to remember the fallen soldiers of the Civil War (1861-1865). In time, the day evolved to honor all who had died in military service. Those who serve in the armed forces make many sacrifices, and unfortunately, some make the ultimate sacrifice.

Most of us know someone who is serving or who has served in the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, or the Coast Guard. It may be a friend, family member, classmate, or coworker. If we’re lucky, those we know all made it home safely. Think how hard it would be if they didn’t.

Memorial Day is a day to honor all of the men and women who didn't make it home. Perhaps it should be a day to think about those they left behind as well. Whether it is in war or peace time service, the families of those who lost a loved one face many hardships. Losing someone you love is very difficult. Parents may lose a son or a daughter. Children lose a mom or a dad.

We think of 3 day weekends, cookouts, and other fun summer time activities. Take a moment to think of those who sacrificed so we have the freedom to enjoy these things.

At CashCrate, we have many members with prior military service, members who are actively serving, and members who are reservists. We thank you for your service.
